Your jobs and your words, not somebody else's.
The pictures and the copy are what sells the job. Both come from you, in about half an hour of effort, and we do the rest.
No. Phone photos of your own finished work are what a customer wants to see, and six good ones will do to launch. We ask for work in progress too, the trench dug out or the scaffold up, because half finished shots prove the job was yours. The words come from one phone call with you, about half an hour.
What a trade site actually needs
Finished work first. That is the one thing a customer is trying to see, and the more of them the better. Six good ones will do to launch, and we keep adding as you send them.
Then work in progress. The dug out trench, the scaffold up, the old slabs stacked on the drive. Half finished shots prove the job was real and yours, which a polished final photo on its own never quite does.
Then the van, with your name on the side. It tells somebody a proper firm is turning up. And the team, if you are up for it. Plenty of people are not, so hands working or a shot from behind does the job. Nobody has to stand there grinning.
The shot list to work through
- Six or more finished jobs, ideally different types of work
- A few mid job shots, including the messy bit
- A before photo of anything you have a finished photo of
- The van with the name on it
- The team, or just hands and tools if the camera is not your thing
- One wide shot of a whole property, for the top of the page
Phone photos are fine, with a few rules
A modern phone beats most of the cameras these pictures used to be taken on. You do not need equipment, you need light and a bit of thought.
Shoot with the sun behind you, not behind the job, or it comes out as a dark shape. Get closer than feels right, then take a wider one too. Keep the horizon flat, and wipe the lens, because a thumbprint softens everything and you will not spot it until it is on the site.
Before and after from the same spot sells more work than any sentence we could write. And send the pictures as they came off the phone, not through a compression app, because we cannot add back detail a messaging app took out.
How the copy gets written
We ring you for about twenty minutes and ask what a customer would ask. Which jobs you want more of and which you want to stop being rung about. What happens on a first visit. Which areas you will and will not drive to. What people get wrong about your trade, and what you say when somebody asks why you are dearer than the bloke down the road.
Then we write the site from your answers, in your words. If you said soakaway, the page says soakaway. If you always call it a crossover rather than a dropped kerb, so does the page, because that is what your customers type into Google.
You read it before it goes anywhere. Change anything that does not sound like you. It is your name on the van, so it has to sound like you said it.
What we will not put on your site
No stock photos of models in hard hats. The same few pictures turn up across a whole trade, and the moment a customer recognises one they wonder what else is borrowed. If you have six real photos, we build round six real photos.
No made up reviews. Not a name, not a star rating, not a quote nobody said. A review goes on when a real customer wrote it and you can show us where.
And no numbers we cannot stand behind. If you have done four hundred driveways we will say four hundred. If nobody has counted, the page says something true instead.
What it looks like when the photos are real
What trades ask us about photos and copy
I have hardly any photos. Can you still build it?
Yes. Six finished jobs is enough to launch, and we build the layout so more can be added as you take them. We will tell you exactly which six to get.
Do I have to be in the photos?
No. Plenty of people would rather not be. Hands working, a shot from behind, or just the van and the work covers it.
Can you use stock photos?
We will not. The same few pictures turn up across a whole trade and customers spot them. Real photos of your own work sell the job, even the imperfect ones.
How long does the call take?
About twenty minutes. One call, and we write the whole site from it. You read the copy before anything goes live.
What if the writing does not sound like me?
Tell us and we change it. It is your name on the van. We would rather rewrite a page than launch something you would not say out loud.
This is one part of a trade website
We do not sell this on its own. It is part of a site built for one trade in one area, with a page for every job and every town you cover. Pick your trade and see what the site looks like.
Ready to see your own photos and words on a real site?
Tell us your firm's name and the areas you cover. We build the site first, put it on a real address and send you the link. One firm per trade per area.
