About Purdown Fencing

Why the name

Purdown is the hill that runs above Horfield and Lockleaze, the ridge the tower stands on and the piece of high ground most of north Bristol can see from the end of the street. It is local, it is specific, and it is not a word borrowed from anywhere else. That felt like the right start for a firm whose whole argument is that local detail matters.

What we do

Garden and boundary fencing across Bristol: repairs and storm damage, new closeboard and feather edge runs, panel replacements, posts and gravel boards, gates including driveway gates, composite fencing, and the planning and boundary checks that ought to come before any of it. Repairs and full replacements carry equal billing here on purpose. A repair is what most people ring about. A new boundary is what a good many of them actually need. We will tell you which one you are looking at.

How we work

• We measure on site before we price. Nothing is quoted off a photograph or a map.
• We settle whose boundary it is, and what your street allows, before the quote is written.
• We put the price in writing, fixed, with the exclusions visible.
• We never cold call and we never knock doors.
• We say when a repair will do, even when a replacement pays us better.

Why this site leads with the council rather than with us

Because that is the part nobody else covers. Bristol has 33 conservation areas covering roughly 30 percent of the city, and several Article 4 Directions that specifically restrict what you can do to a gate, a fence or a wall. Not one of the fencing firms on the front page of a Bristol search mentions any of it, and Google has been filling that gap with a Bristol City Council page instead. We would rather be the site that answers the question than the site that shouts loudest.

What we are not telling you

There are no star ratings on this site, no review counts, no founding date and no scheme badges. That is deliberate. We are not going to publish figures we cannot evidence, and a logo on a website proves nothing about who turns up at your gate. Clifton, Bishopston and Horfield, Westbury-on-Trym, Bedminster and Southville, Fishponds, and Kingswood, which is South Gloucestershire rather than Bristol and has its own rules as a result.
