Websites for tree surgeons in Hitchin that carry the notice on the page.

Hitchin is 16,130 properties in our own total across its four census areas, with a conservation area of its own and a council that sets out the six week notice in plain words.

We build a page per job, an area page for each of the four Hitchin areas, and a protected trees page. Our own total of the Valuation Office table across those four areas is 16,130 properties, 4,890 of them built before 1940. See it live before you pay a penny, live in 7 days.

The houses in Hitchin

Our own total of the Valuation Office stock table CTSOP4.1, stock at 31 March 2025, across the four Hitchin census areas is 16,130 properties. 2,340 of them, 14.5 per cent, were built before 1919 and 4,890, 30.3 per cent, before 1940, with 15.9 per cent from 2000 onwards. The published North Hertfordshire row in the same table is 60,040 properties.

Census 2021 table TS044 records 30.5 per cent of North Hertfordshire households in semi detached houses, 24.6 per cent terraced, 24.3 per cent detached and 18.3 per cent in purpose built flats. Hitchin Bearton is the oldest of the four areas, with 32.5 per cent of its property built before 1919 and 52.1 per cent before 1940.

We would give the four areas a page each and carry your own finished jobs on them, with a protected trees page setting out the notice route the council publishes.

Bearton

32.5 per cent built before 1919 and 52.1 per cent before 1940, the oldest of the four Hitchin areas, with 35.5 per cent of households in flats and 9.4 per cent detached (VOA CTSOP4.1; Census 2021 TS044). TS054 records 27.7 per cent renting from a private landlord or letting agency.

Domestic and communal ground work, each with its own enquiry route on the site.

Hitchin Town and West

24.5 per cent detached and 27.9 per cent semi detached, with 27.7 per cent in flats; 10.0 per cent built before 1919 and 36.5 per cent between 1945 and 1972 (Census 2021 TS044; VOA CTSOP4.1). The Hitchin conservation area covers the town centre.

Section 211 work inside the conservation boundary the council describes area by area, including Butts Close and Hitchin Hill Path.

Walsworth

46.6 per cent semi detached, the highest semi detached share of the four areas, with 4.3 per cent built before 1919 and 20.3 per cent before 1940 (Census 2021 TS044; VOA CTSOP4.1).

Boundary trees, with the neighbouring boundary and the access arrangements asked for up front.

Highbury

23.5 per cent detached and 37.6 per cent semi detached, with 42.5 per cent built between 1945 and 1972 (Census 2021 TS044; VOA CTSOP4.1). Census 2021 TS054 records 38.5 per cent of households owning outright.

The rules that change a tree surgery job in Hitchin

North Herts Council states the conservation area rule in its own words: "The Council requires at least six weeks prior notice of intended works to trees situated in a conservation area. During this period the Council can either give consent for the works to proceed or, if there are objections, make the tree(s) the subject of a Tree Preservation Order. In the event of the Council not doing either of the above within the six week period then the works may proceed." It sets out the exceptions on the same page: "You do not need to notify us if you want to cut down or work on a tree in a Conservation Area that is less than 7.5cm in diameter (measured 1.5m above ground) or 10cm if you are thinning to help the growth of other trees."

For trees under an order the council states that consent is required for all works of pruning and felling, with an exception where the work is urgent and the tree is dead or in a dangerous condition, and that "it is a requirement to give at least five working days written prior notice to the Council of proposed work on dead trees". It also notes that many planning permissions carry conditions protecting existing trees, and that written consent is required for works to those trees. Hitchin has its own conservation area.

Nationally, gov.uk describes the requirement for "people to notify the local planning authority, using a section 211 notice, 6 weeks before carrying out certain work on such trees, unless an exception applies", and says the work may go ahead sooner where the authority gives consent. The same guidance states that consent "is needed for carrying out work on diseased and/or dying trees unless some other exemption applies".

We would explain how you check the conservation area boundary, any tree preservation order and the proposed work before confirming whether a section 211 notice or consent is needed.

Who you are up against in Hitchin

We counted the Google Maps results for tree surgeons in Hitchin on 16 September 2026. The sample was 40 listings. Seven of them are tree firms with a Hitchin address, five of those seven have a website and two have none. Seven of the 40 are gardeners, landscapers or a pub rather than tree firms, one is a national arboriculture firm counted separately, and twenty five are tree firms based outside the town, several of them in Stotfold, Letchworth, Arlesey and Lower Stondon.

That is one dated sample of one search. What we would do with it is give Bearton, the Town and West, Walsworth and Highbury a page each, with a protected trees page carrying the council's own six week wording.

Where a tree surgeon in Hitchin gets to when they invest

One Hitchin firm appeared in the first ten Google local listings we checked for "tree surgeons in Hitchin", with a site worth opening. The Hitchin site we opened runs a page per town and a page per job, with the location pages kept separate from the service pages in the navigation.

  • Everest Tree Services Ltd

Built on WordPress. It carries a page per area, photographs of its own jobs and reviews on the page. Quotes come through WhatsApp, and the phone number sits in the header.

It runs a page per town, including Hitchin, Stevenage, Berkhamsted, Dunstable, Luton and St Albans, and gives each job its own page under Tree Services. The navigation separates location pages from service pages.

Each one opened and checked 16 September 2026.

Tree surgeons in Hitchin ask us

  • Do I need a page about conservation areas and protected trees?

North Herts Council requires at least six weeks' prior notice of intended works to trees in a conservation area, and names exceptions including trees under 7.5cm in diameter measured 1.5m above ground. Hitchin has its own conservation area. Your page would explain how you check whether notice or consent is needed, and whether you prepare the paperwork yourself.

  • Is Hitchin old enough to throw up real tree work?

Our own total across the four Hitchin areas includes 4,890 properties built before 1940, out of 16,130, and Hitchin Bearton is 52.1 per cent pre 1940 (Valuation Office stock table, 31 March 2025). Those are housing figures and nothing more. The pages would use your own local jobs to show the trees and the work you handle.

  • What are the other firms doing that I am not?

The Hitchin site we opened keeps its location pages and its service pages separate in the navigation, with a page for each town it covers. The Google Maps query returned 40 listings on 16 September 2026, twenty five of them tree firms based outside Hitchin. Those observations describe one query on one day.
