Our own totals of the Valuation Office table CTSOP4.1, stock at 31 March 2025, cover 30,780 dwellings across the nine census areas that make up Bury town. 8,360 of them predate 1919, 27.2 per cent, 5,590 are inter war, 18.2 per cent, and 13,950 predate 1940, 45.3 per cent. The published borough row records 85,370 properties, 22.8 per cent pre 1919 and 43.8 per cent pre 1940.
The town centre areas carry the old stock. Fernhill and Pimhole is 59.1 per cent pre 1919 and Whitehead Park 46.9 per cent. The ring around them is post war: Elton Vale is 55.6 per cent built between 1945 and 1972 and Walshaw and Woolfold 42.3 per cent. Outside the town, Ramsbottom is 38.7 per cent pre 1919, Nuttall and Tottington 33.3 per cent, Radcliffe 30.5 per cent and the two Whitefield areas 12.6 and 19.8 per cent.
Bury Council's draft housing strategy 2026 to 2036 states that the private rented sector "now houses 17.8% of Bury's households, more than double the share in 2001" and that "over a fifth of private rented homes are non-decent". Our own sum of the Census 2021 TS054 counts for the nine census areas that make up the town, Fernhill and Pimhole, Whitehead Park, Buckley Wells and Fishpool, Elton Vale, Walshaw and Woolfold, Fairfield and Jericho, Redvales and Hollins, Walmersley and Limefield and Higher Woodhill, puts private renting at 5,483 households out of 28,973, 18.9 per cent, with Fernhill and Pimhole at 38.0 per cent and Elton Vale at 6.0 per cent. We would build a rewire page, a board page and a certificate page, and let the area pages point each one at the right streets.
