Websites for fencing firms in Newport that name the Newport directions.

Newport City Council says the city has 15 conservation areas, and names Article 4 directions at Caerleon, Lower Dock Street, Stow Park and The Shrubbery.

We build a page per job and a page per area, with a quote tool that takes photographs. Census 2021 records 31.4 per cent of Newport households in semi detached houses and 31.1 per cent terraced, with detached and semi detached together at 52.1 per cent. The houses in Newport

The published Newport row records 71,900 properties (VOA CTSOP4.1, stock at 31 March 2025). 22.4 per cent were built before 1919 and 33.9 per cent before 1940, with 27.4 per cent between 1945 and 1972, 18.1 per cent between 1973 and 1999 and 20.6 per cent in 2000 or later. Those figures cover the whole authority, not only the town.

Census 2021 table TS044 records 31.4 per cent of Newport households in semi detached houses, 31.1 per cent terraced, 20.7 per cent detached and 15.6 per cent in purpose built or converted flats combined. Detached and semi detached homes together account for 52.1 per cent of households. The table records accommodation type and nothing about a boundary.

We would build a page for the four conservation areas that carry a direction and a page for the western suburbs, each carrying your own finished work.

Caerleon

One of the council's 15 conservation areas, designated in 1970 and extended in 1977, appraised in 2019 with the boundary revised in January 2020. The council says "an Article 4 Direction is in place for the Caerleon conservation area" (Newport City Council).

Stow Park

Designated in 1983, appraised in 2019, boundary revised January 2020. The council says "the introduction of an Article 4(2) Direction in 2020 removed certain permitted development rights in the Stow Park conservation area" (Newport City Council).

Work to build, renew, alter or take down part of a gate, fence or wall.

The Shrubbery

Designated in 1983, appraised in 2019, boundary revised January 2020. The council says an Article 4(2) Direction was introduced in 2020, and describes the area's "high proportion of greenery" and "distinctive villa design" (Newport City Council).

Kensington Place

Designated in August 1995. The council notes that "many of the original forecourts have been converted for car parking with the loss of the original boundary treatments", which "mainly comprised of low stone walls with either cast iron railings or hedges", while the Edwardian houses in St John's Road "mostly retain their original boundary walls" (Newport City Council).

Rogerstone and Bassaleg

The western suburbs. The published Newport row shows 20.6 per cent of the authority's 71,900 properties built from 2000 onwards (Valuation Office stock tables, 2025).

The rules that change a fencing job in Newport

Newport City Council says "Newport has 15 conservation areas" and that "some conservation areas in Newport have an Article 4(2) Direction in place, this means that works that were previously allowed now require planning permission". Its own list of what then needs permission for residential properties includes to "build, renew, alter or demolish any part of a gate, fence, porch or wall". The council names a direction at Caerleon, one at Lower Dock Street implemented in April 2002, and Article 4(2) Directions introduced in 2020 at Stow Park and at The Shrubbery.

Newport is in Wales, so the Welsh rules apply and the English Planning Portal does not. Welsh Government guidance says you will need to apply for planning permission if you erect or add to a fence, wall or gate and "it would be over 1 metre high and next to a highway used by vehicles (or the footpath of such a highway); or over 2 metres high elsewhere", or if "your right to put up or alter fences, walls and gates is removed by an article 4 direction or a planning condition", or if "the fence, wall or gate, or any other boundary involved, is in the curtilage of a listed building".

The same guidance says "you will not need to apply for planning permission to take down a fence, wall or gate, or to alter, maintain or improve an existing fence, wall or gate (no matter how high) if you don't increase its height". It adds that "in a conservation area, however, you might need conservation area consent to take down a fence, wall or gate".

In Newport we would explain how you check the conservation boundary, any Article 4 direction and the proposed work before confirming whether permission is needed.

Who you are up against in Newport

We counted the Google Maps results for fencing contractors in Newport, Wales on 16 September 2026. The sample was seven independent fencing firms with a Newport address: five had their own website and two had none, one of those carrying a social page instead. Three further listings belonged to one national fencing brand, including its head office on Queensway Meadows. Three were timber and shed suppliers, 11 were other local trades with Newport, Rogerstone or Bassaleg addresses, nine listed no address at all, and seven were outside the city.

That is one dated sample of one Newport search. What we would do with it is give Caerleon, Stow Park, Lower Dock Street, Rogerstone and Bassaleg a page each, carrying the runs and gates you have finished in them.

Where a fencing firm in Newport gets to when they invest

Three Newport firms appeared in the first ten Google local listings we checked for "fencing contractors in Newport", with sites worth opening. One runs a page per fence type and a page per area, one puts a call now button carrying the mobile at the top, and one keeps a fencing options page beside its services page.

  • Newport Fencing

It carries a page per area and photographs of its own jobs. It has no reviews on the page. Quotes come through a form.

The Newport searches worth their own page

  • "fencing Newport"

50 searches a month (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

The town page. Newport is also a town in Shropshire, on the Isle of Wight and in Essex, so the page names the Welsh wards you cover.

  • "fence panels Newport"

30 searches a month (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

A panels page, covering the panel types you fit in Newport and how the posts are set.

  • "fencing contractors Newport"

10 searches a month (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

Its own page, about contract and repeat work in Newport. It would carry completed projects and an enquiry route.

  • "garden fencing Newport"

10 searches a month (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

The domestic wording. The new fencing page answers it with finished Newport garden runs.

  • "decking Newport"

10 searches a month (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

A decking page for Newport, with the frame, the fixings and a finished deck on it.

  • "fence repairs Newport"

no recorded monthly volume (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

Queried and no row came back. The Newport repairs page still gets built, with the photo upload on it.

Of the six Newport phrases shown, five carry a recorded monthly volume. Fence repairs Newport does not.

Fencing contractors in Newport ask us

  • Newport is in Wales. Do the English fencing rules apply here?

No. Welsh Government guidance governs, and it sets the heights, over one metre next to a highway used by vehicles or over two metres elsewhere. It also names listed building curtilage, Article 4 directions and planning conditions as the checks. The page would quote the Welsh wording and say when conservation area consent may be needed.

  • Which Newport jobs actually need planning permission?

Permission can turn on height, a listed building curtilage, a planning condition or an Article 4 direction. Newport City Council says some of its 15 conservation areas carry an Article 4(2) direction, naming Caerleon, Lower Dock Street, Stow Park and The Shrubbery. The page would say the property and the work are both checked against the relevant direction.

  • My Google listing gets lost among national brands. Can a site fix that?

The pull on 16 September 2026 held seven independent fencing firms with Newport addresses and three listings belonging to one national brand. Those counts do not establish what a website would change. What a site can do is set out your actual service area and show the local jobs you have finished in it.
