Hemel Hempstead Town
43.5 per cent of households are flats and 21.4 per cent rent from a private landlord or letting agency (Census 2021).
Apartment and communal door work, with the hours you cover it named.
Census 2021 records 43.5 per cent of households in Hemel Hempstead Town as flats, and Dacorum Borough Council's guide to fire safety in houses in multiple occupation sets its condition under the heading SECURITY OF DOORS.
We build the emergency page around your number, your cover hours and your call out basis, then a page each for the estates, the repairs and the landlord work. Dacorum Borough Council's HMO fire safety guide requires security devices on bedrooms and final exit doors to open from the inside without keys, and we quote it. See it live before you pay a penny, live in 7 days.
Census 2021 table TS044 records 22.0 per cent of households in Dacorum living in flats, 20.6 per cent purpose built and 1.4 per cent converted. Table TS054 records 13.0 per cent renting from a private landlord or letting agency, a further 1.4 per cent in other private rented accommodation and 21.1 per cent social rented.
Inside the town the flats share runs higher in the centre and on the newer estates. Hemel Hempstead Town is 43.5 per cent flats with 21.4 per cent renting from a private landlord or agency, Woodhall Farm is 40.0 per cent flats with 22.0 per cent, Maylands and Adeyfield is 32.7 per cent flats with 36.8 per cent social rented, and Boxmoor and Apsley is 30.1 per cent flats with 18.2 per cent (Census 2021).
We would keep the communal door work and the house work on separate pages, and add a social landlord and agent page that says which instructions you take and how a key handover runs.

Dacorum Borough Council puts the condition on the door. Its guide to fire safety in houses in multiple occupation states, under the heading SECURITY OF DOORS, that "Security devices on bedrooms and final exit doors must be capable of being opened from the inside without the use of keys, i.e. Yale type or thumb turn locks." The same document requires "A fire door of at least 30 minute fire resistance, with cold smoke seals, intumescent strips and self-closers" in each doorway leading onto the escape route, except bathrooms and WCs unless they contain a fire risk such as a boiler. They apply to HMOs as the council's guide describes them, rather than to housing generally.
Above that sits a trade with no statutory scheme behind it. The Master Locksmiths Association states that "As there's no government based licensing scheme for locksmiths, anyone can advertise as a locksmith irrespective of their background or competency", and that it runs its own scheme in which approved companies "have been vetted, are regularly inspected and have to employ a qualified locksmith".
Allianz's home insurance guidance names the standard: "Most insurers insist your lock conforms to British Standard BS3621, which ensures it has been independently tested for security features including resistance to drilling, picking and forced entry." It tells a householder to check "the faceplate of the lock or the strike plate for the BSI Kitemark or BS3621 marking", and the Master Locksmiths Association adds that the certification is done by BSI rather than by the insurers.
Police.uk returned 9 burglary offences in the Hemel Hempstead North Rural, West and Central neighbourhood for July 2026, the latest month its street level crimes data listed when we read it on 17 September 2026. The neighbourhood name itself takes in rural area outside the town, and this is a count for one named neighbourhood and one month.
We would explain how a customer checks a locksmith's vetting, what the Master Locksmiths Association says its approval covers, and what the insurer's BS 3621 wording asks them to look for on the lock.
The local field, 17 September 2026
We counted the Google Maps results for locksmiths in Hemel Hempstead on 17 September 2026. The sample was 40 listings, 8 of them carrying a Hemel Hempstead postal address. Two of those 8 are branches of a national chain and sit outside the website counts, leaving 6 in-area firms, all 6 with a website recorded. Three further rows in the pull were national chain or network pages, and the remaining addresses sat in Watford, Kings Langley, St Albans, Stevenage, Tring and further out.
That sample is one search read on one day. What we would do with it is give Hemel Hempstead Town, Adeyfield, Grovehill, Bennetts End and Woodhall Farm a page each, naming the door types you meet in them.
Three Hemel Hempstead firms appeared in the first ten Google local listings we checked for "locksmiths in Hemel Hempstead", with sites worth opening. This is the bar a Hemel Hempstead locksmith reaches once the site has had money put into it.
It carries photographs of its own jobs and reviews on the page. It has no page per area. Quotes come through a form, and the phone number sits in the header.
The home page opens with a named Meet Chris section carrying a photograph of the person who turns up, with the Which? Trusted Trader mark and the telephone number beside it.
It carries a page per area and reviews on the page. Quotes come through a form, and the phone number sits in the header.
The site names BS3621 on the home page and links three separate Hemel Hempstead directory pages, with a landline and a mobile number both at the top.
It carries photographs of its own jobs. It has no page per area and no reviews on the page. Quotes come through WhatsApp.
The navigation splits the trade into three named pages, automotive, residential and commercial, so a caller lands on the one that matches the job.
Two keep the phone number in the header, two carry reviews on the page, and one runs a page per area. Each one opened and checked 17 September 2026.

The nearest build of ours you can open
A driveway build rather than a lock one, so the trade differs. The bones are identical: a page per job, the number fixed on the screen and a quote tool that collects the surface, project type, size and preferred timing. Yours would collect the lock problem and whether it needs urgent attention. Work it through to the last step.
What every locksmithing site needs, whatever the town, is on our locksmiths page.
Say what you fit rather than what the estate is. Census 2021 records 32.7 per cent of the Maylands and Adeyfield area as flats and 51.6 per cent of Grovehill households as terraced. We would give each area a page that names the door and lock types you work on there and shows the jobs you have finished.
There is. Dacorum Borough Council's HMO fire safety guide states that security devices on bedrooms and final exit doors must be capable of being opened from the inside without the use of keys, giving Yale type or thumb turn locks as the example. That applies to HMOs as the council's document describes them, and we would quote it on a landlord page.
OpenSEO recorded 320 searches a month for locksmith Hemel Hempstead, 70 for auto locksmith Hemel Hempstead, 20 for emergency locksmith Hemel Hempstead and 10 for 24 hour locksmith Hemel Hempstead in September 2026. We would build a page for each of those jobs rather than one services list carrying all of them.
