Bedwell
34.7 per cent of households are flats, 18.3 per cent rent from a private landlord or agency and 35.7 per cent are social rented (Census 2021).
Communal entrance and flat door work.
Census 2021 records 26.3 per cent of Stevenage households as socially rented, including 20.4 per cent renting from the council, and Stevenage Borough Council's HMO amenity standards set conditions on the locks and on the handover of keys.
We build the emergency page first, then a communal door page, a terraced door page and a landlord page. Census 2021 records 46.1 per cent of Stevenage households in terraced housing and 21.3 per cent in flats. Each of those gets a page naming the doors you work on rather than one services list. See it live before you pay a penny, live in 7 days.
Census 2021 table TS054 records 13.7 per cent of Stevenage households renting from a private landlord or letting agency, a further 1.3 per cent in other private rented accommodation, and 26.3 per cent of all households socially rented, of which 20.4 per cent of all households rent from the council.
Table TS044 records 21.3 per cent of households living in flats, 20.1 per cent purpose built and 1.2 per cent converted, with terraced housing the largest type at 46.1 per cent. By area, Pin Green is 35.8 per cent flats with 17.4 per cent renting from a private landlord or agency, Bedwell is 34.7 per cent flats with 18.3 per cent, Symonds Green is 29.0 per cent flats with 18.0 per cent, and Chells South is 68.2 per cent terraced (Census 2021).
We would build one page for communal entrances and flat doors and another for terraced front and back doors, with a landlord and agent page beside them saying which instructions you take.

Stevenage Borough Council sets its condition in the amenity standards for houses in multiple occupation. Under personal safety and security it states that "Sufficient measures must be in place to provide a secure environment for the occupiers, including appropriate locks to external doors and tenant's own rooms to prevent unauthorised access but permit safe egress", that "Vulnerable windows must also be capable of being effectively secured against entry without compromising the means of escape in case of fire", that "Appropriate arrangements must be in place to control the issue and return of house keys on changes of tenancy, or the changing of locks", and that "Simple locks must be provided to communal bathrooms and toilets to provide privacy".
It adds that "Any advice on crime prevention measures provided by the Police Crime Prevention Officer must be acted on". The conditions bind HMOs as the council's document sets them out, not housing in general.
The trade itself carries no statutory scheme. The Master Locksmiths Association states that "As there's no government based licensing scheme for locksmiths, anyone can advertise as a locksmith irrespective of their background or competency." Its own scheme sits in that gap, and it says approved companies "have been vetted, are regularly inspected and have to employ a qualified locksmith".
For the lock standard, Allianz's home insurance guidance states that "Most insurers insist your lock conforms to British Standard BS3621, which ensures it has been independently tested for security features including resistance to drilling, picking and forced entry", and tells the reader to check "the faceplate of the lock or the strike plate for the BSI Kitemark or BS3621 marking". The Master Locksmiths Association adds that the requirement varies between insurers.
Police.uk returned 3 burglary offences in the Stevenage Central neighbourhood for July 2026, the latest month its street level crimes data listed when we read it on 17 September 2026. That number is a count for one named neighbourhood across one month.
We would show a Stevenage customer how to check a locksmith's vetting, what the Master Locksmiths Association says its approval covers, and what the insurer's BS 3621 wording asks them to look for on the lock.
The local field, 17 September 2026
We counted the Google Maps results for locksmiths in Stevenage on 17 September 2026. The sample was 40 listings, 13 of them carrying a Stevenage postal address. Six of those 13 are pages of national chains or networks and sit outside the website counts, leaving 7 in-area firms: 5 had a website recorded and 2 had none. Nine rows in the whole pull were chain or network pages, and the remaining addresses sat in Knebworth, Ware, Letchworth Garden City, Welwyn Garden City and further out.
One search, read once, on the date given. What we would do with it is give Bedwell, Pin Green, Shephall, Chells South and the Old Town a page each, carrying the work you have finished in them.
Three Stevenage firms appeared in the first ten Google local listings we checked for "locksmiths in Stevenage", with sites worth opening. This is the standard a Stevenage locksmith's site reaches once it has been worked on properly.

Different trade, same bones. This one is a driveway firm, and it carries a page per job, the number on every screen and a quote tool that collects the surface, project type, size and preferred timing. Yours would collect the lock problem and whether it needs urgent attention. Open it and take it to the end.
What every locksmithing site needs, whatever the town, is on our locksmiths page.
As context for what you offer. Census 2021 records 26.3 per cent of Stevenage households as socially rented, including 20.4 per cent renting from the council. If you take managing agent and landlord instructions as well as householder calls, we would give that its own page and say what the job includes.
Stevenage Borough Council's HMO amenity standards state that appropriate locks to external doors and tenants' own rooms must prevent unauthorised access but permit safe egress, and that arrangements must control the issue and return of house keys on changes of tenancy, or the changing of locks. We would quote that straight and name what you fit.
Census 2021 records 20.2 per cent of households in Woodfield and Old Town as flats, against 68.2 per cent of Chells South households in terraces. Those are two different sets of doors. We would give each area a page naming the door and lock types you work on and showing finished jobs.
