Tamworth Borough Council names seven conservation areas, Albert Road and Victoria Street, Amington Green, Amington Hall Estate, Dosthill, Hospital Street, Tamworth Town and Wilnecote, and states that "Any works proposed within a conservation area will require planning consent." It states that some areas "are also subject to an Article 4 Direction, which further restricts development rights to protect the area's heritage", and links direction documents for five of them: Albert Road and Victoria Street, Amington Green, Hospital Street, Tamworth Town and Wilnecote. It records 175 listed buildings in Tamworth.
The Planning Portal states that planning permission is not usually needed for the "insertion of new windows and doors that are of a similar appearance to those used in the construction of the house", and that "a new bay window will be treated as an extension and may require permission". It adds that a listed building needs listed building consent for any significant works.
On building control the same source states that "Since 1 April 2002 building regulations have applied to all replacement glazing", and gives two routes: "an installer registered with the relevant competent person scheme", who provides a certificate on completion, or an unregistered installer or do it yourself, "in which case approval can be sought from the relevant Building Control Body".

We counted the Google Maps results for window fitters in Tamworth on 17 September 2026. The sample was 40 listings: 16 were window, door or glazing firms with a Tamworth postal address, 14 of them listed a website and 2 listed none. One of those 14 listed URLs is a Facebook page rather than a site of its own. A window supplier and fabricator was counted separately, one window cleaning firm and one vehicle window tinting firm with Tamworth addresses were left out as a different trade, one row carried no address, and the rest gave addresses in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Lichfield and Swadlincote.
