The rules that change a landscaping job in Yeovil

Somerset Council says that if a tree is in a conservation area "you are required to give Somerset Council 6 weeks prior notice to allow us to assess the proposed works and to determine if the tree is worthy of a Tree Preservation Order". Where an order is already in force the council says it is an offence to cut down, top, lop, uproot, wilfully damage or wilfully destroy the tree without the planning authority's permission.

The same council names the exemptions: a tree that is a safety risk, work already approved as part of a planning permission, or a legal nuisance or statutory obligation, each needing "at least 5 days written notice". It also publishes conservation area maps and appraisals and says it is wise to check with the local planning authority before starting work that may elsewhere not require planning permission.

On outbuildings the Planning Portal says they may qualify as permitted development for eligible houses, subject to limits on purpose, position, coverage and height, and it puts a 2.5 metre overall height limit on a building within two metres of the property boundary. The same page says listed buildings, designated land and restrictions on permitted development require separate checks.

We would explain how you check the conservation boundary, any tree preservation order, any Article 4 direction and the proposed work before confirming whether permission or notice is needed.

Who you are up against in Yeovil

We counted the Google Maps results for landscapers in Yeovil on 16 September 2026. The sample was 40 listings and 21 of them carried a BA20, BA21 or BA22 postcode. Four of those were a stone supplier, an architect, a garden centre and a builders merchant, which leaves seventeen in area trade listings: eleven had a website of their own, two linked only to a Facebook page and four had no web address at all. The rest of the pull reached in from Sherborne, Crewkerne, Weymouth and Portland.

One search, pulled once, with a date on it. What we would do with it is give Yeovil South, Lufton, North East, the town centre, Milford Park and Preston Plucknett a page each, with your own jobs on them.

Where a landscaper in Yeovil gets to when they invest

Three Yeovil firms appeared in the first ten Google local listings we checked for "landscapers in Yeovil", with sites worth opening. One of the three splits private work from commercial work, so a household and a managing agent each land on a page written for them.

  • GJS Landscapes Ltd

It carries photographs of its own jobs and reviews on the page. It has no page per area. Quotes come by phone, and the phone number sits in the header.

The site has separate pages for landscaping, patios, driveways and paths, fencing and gates, and groundwork, with a health and safety page in the navigation.

  • Somerset Landscapes Ltd

Built on WordPress. It carries photographs of its own jobs and reviews on the page. It has no page per area. Quotes come through a form, and the phone number sits in the header.

It has a dedicated request a quote page rather than a contact form buried in the footer, so the one action the site wants is the one in the nav.

  • Maple Garden Management

It carries photographs of its own jobs and reviews on the page. It has no page per area. Quotes come by phone, and the phone number sits in the header.

It splits private services from commercial services, so a household and a managing agent each land on a page written for them.

All three keep the phone number in the header, all three carry reviews on the page, and none run a page per area. Each one opened and checked 16 September 2026.

The Yeovil searches worth their own page

  • "landscape gardeners Yeovil"

20 searches a month (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

The measured Yeovil phrase, carried in the title and the first heading of the town page.

  • "artificial grass Yeovil"

10 searches a month (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

A page of its own, with the edging and the sub base shown on lawns you have laid.

  • "decking Yeovil"

10 searches a month (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

A decking page carrying the Planning Portal conditions and the decks you have built in Lufton.

  • "landscapers in Yeovil"

no recorded monthly volume (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

The town page answers it alongside the measured phrase, naming the seven areas.

  • "garden design Yeovil"

no recorded monthly volume (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

A design page with the drawing and the finished garden side by side, for the Yeovil South and Lufton plots.

  • "patio installers Yeovil"

no recorded monthly volume (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

The patio page is built regardless, with the base, the falls and the stone named.

Three of the six Yeovil phrases shown carry a recorded monthly volume. Landscapers in Yeovil and garden design Yeovil returned rows with no volume on them, and patio installers Yeovil returned no row at all (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026).

What we would build for a Yeovil landscaper

  • A home page naming Yeovil South, Lufton and Hollands, North East, the town centre, Milford Park and Preston Plucknett.
  • An artificial grass page, since artificial grass Yeovil carries a recorded monthly volume.
  • A decking page carrying the Planning Portal height and coverage limits in plain words.
  • A full garden rebuild page for the detached plots in Yeovil South.
  • A patios page with the base, the falls and the materials named, for the North East terraces.
  • A rules page quoting Somerset Council's six weeks prior notice and the five days written notice exemptions.
  • Area pages for Yeovil South, Lufton, North East, the town centre, Milford Park and Preston Plucknett.
  • A quote tool that asks what the garden needs, roughly how big it is, whether a machine can get to the back, and takes two photographs.

Landscapers in Yeovil ask us

  • Which Yeovil searches have a volume behind them?

Landscape gardeners Yeovil returned 20 searches a month on 16 September 2026, with artificial grass Yeovil and decking Yeovil at 10 each. Landscapers in Yeovil and garden design Yeovil came back as rows with no volume. Those are phrase measurements, so we would open the site on the housing rather than on them.

  • What was in the Yeovil listing count?

Of the 40 listings counted on 16 September 2026, 21 carried a BA20, BA21 or BA22 postcode and four of those sat outside the trade. Of the seventeen trade listings, eleven had their own website, two linked only to Facebook and four had no web address. It is a count of listings on one day.

  • Should the site name the parts of Yeovil I cover?

Census 2021 records 44.5 per cent detached households in Yeovil South and 38.5 per cent terraced in Yeovil North East. Those are accommodation types rather than garden sizes. Naming each area and showing what you finished there is what a customer in that area is actually looking for.
