Pontefract North is 48.0% semi detached, 23.5% detached and 13.1% purpose built flats. Wakefield Rural, which takes in Darrington, is 47.4% semi detached and 33.0% detached.
Pontefract sits inside Wakefield district, so the wider figures are the district's. The published Valuation Office stock table CTSOP4.1, stock at 31 March 2025, records 15.4% of the district built before 1919 and 15.4% between 1919 and 1939, with 29.9% between 1945 and 1972 and 28.8% since 1983. Across the district Census 2021 puts 44.6% of households in semi detached houses.

Wakefield Council lists 31 conservation areas in the district. Three of them are in Pontefract itself, Pontefract Castle, Pontefract Market Place and The Mount, with Friarwood and Button Park alongside them, and High Ackworth, Badsworth and Wentbridge cover the villages to the south.
Article 4 directions are in force in three places in the whole district, Heath, St Johns and Whitwood Terrace. Carleton and Darrington are not conservation areas and neither carries an Article 4 direction.

Once merchants, architects, glaziers, roofers and national housebuilders are set aside, 21 building firms are left: 11 with a site of their own and 10 with none. Four of the other ten run on a Facebook page or a directory listing.
That is one dated sample of one search. Three of the top places in the local pack have no website at all. What we would do with it is give Carleton, Darrington, Ackworth, Knottingley and Castleford a page each, carrying your finished jobs.

Four of the ten listings on page one for "builders in Pontefract" have no website at all, one links to a Facebook page and one to an Instagram page (OpenSEO local search results, read 16 September 2026). Only two of the ten phrases we checked returned any volume, so Pontefract is a small search market.
