The published Valuation Office stock table CTSOP4.1, stock at 31 March 2025, records 95,980 properties in Solihull borough. 3,040 of them were built before 1919, which is 3.2 per cent, and 44.7 per cent went up between 1945 and 1972. Our own total of the same table over the eleven census areas named for the town covers 35,200 properties, at 26.1 per cent pre 1940 and 11.2 per cent built in 2000 or later. Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council is unusually firm about who builds the crossing. Its own words are: "The construction of all dropped kerbs in Solihull can only be carried out by Solihull Council's own highways contractors." The application is made on the council's online form.
The same council names 20 conservation areas, among them Olton, Knowle, Hampton-in-Arden, Castle Bromwich and Solihull itself, and its conservation guidance states that "a conservation area may also be the subject of an article 4 Direction, which removes further permitted development rights".
The Planning Portal carries the national rule for a front garden. On an eligible house with the relevant permitted development rights, paving may use permeable surfacing or drain to a lawn or border without a planning application, while impermeable paving over five square metres needs permission where it does not drain to a permeable area, and flats, maisonettes, certain converted or newly created houses and properties with relevant restrictions sit outside that allowance.

We counted the Google Maps results for paving and driveway firms in Solihull on 16 September 2026. The sample was 40 listings, 19 of them carrying a Solihull area postcode: 16 of those 19 had a website and 3 had none. Eight of the 40 published no address at all and 13 gave an address outside the borough. Four carried Solihull in their web address, and no builders merchants came back on this phrase.
That is one dated sample of one search. What we would do with it is give Monkspath, Lyndon, Olton, Elmdon Heath and Sharmans Cross a page each, carrying the drives you have finished in them.
Three Solihull firms appeared in the first ten Google local listings we checked for "driveway companies in Solihull", with sites worth opening. These sites combine material pages with pages naming Solihull.
