Websites for decorators in Brighouse that quote Calderdale's own words.

Calderdale Council names what needs permission in a conservation area that would not need it elsewhere, and our own totals put 40.2 per cent of the four named Brighouse areas before 1940.

We build a stone housing page for the Brighouse area, a semis page for Rastrick, an exteriors page and a rules page quoting Calderdale, with an area page for each. Census 2021 records 41.3 per cent of Calderdale households living in terraced houses and 17.9 per cent renting from a private landlord or letting agency. The houses in Brighouse

Our own totals over the four named Brighouse areas record 14,730 properties, 4,240 built before 1919, which is 28.8 per cent, and 5,920 before 1940, which is 40.2 per cent (VOA CTSOP4.1, stock at 31 March 2025). The published Calderdale local authority row beside them records 97,420 properties at 36.0 per cent before 1919 and 51.0 per cent before 1940, and Halifax, Elland, Hipperholme and Sowerby Bridge are left out of the town total. Inside the town the pre 1919 share runs from 16.5 per cent in Rastrick West to 39.5 per cent in the Brighouse area itself.

Census 2021 records Calderdale at 17.9 per cent of households renting from a private landlord or letting agency, 14.6 per cent renting socially and 41.3 per cent in terraced houses. Inside the town the private landlord share is 17.8 per cent in both Brighouse and Clifton and Bailiff Bridge and 10.3 per cent in Rastrick West, where 19.9 per cent rent socially, and the terraced share is 39.3 per cent in Brighouse and 35.9 per cent in Clifton and Bailiff Bridge.

The rules that change a painting and decorating job in Brighouse

Calderdale Council states that in a conservation area "Permission is needed for some types of development that you may not need elsewhere, such as: larger extensions; dormer windows; cladding external walls of a house; satellite dishes facing a highway; illuminated advertisements." It lists 21 conservation areas by name, among them Akroydon, Copley, Elland, Halifax Town Centre, Hebden Bridge, Heptonstall, Luddenden, Mytholmroyd, Northowram Village, Ripponden, Savile Park, Skircoat Green, Sowerby Bridge, Stainland, Todmorden, Warley and West Vale. No area named Brighouse or Rastrick appears on that list, which is what the list shows rather than a statement that no designation touches the town, and the council directs people to its environmental map.

On listed buildings Calderdale states "If a building is listed, the whole of the building is protected both internally and externally", that this includes "Any object or structure fixed to a listed building; or within the curtilage of the listed building", and that "Sometimes a particular feature is not mentioned either on the exterior or interior of the building. This does not indicate that it is not of importance or that it can be removed without consent." On Article 4 directions it states "An Article 4 Direction is when a council removes these rights. When this happens, you must get planning permission from us if you want to develop something", and names eight: Eiffel Street, Birchcliffe Road, Melbourne Street, West Laithe, Hangingroyd Lane, Oldham Road, Land at Dukes Cut and Land at rear of 1 to 10 Stocks Gardens.

The national wording a Brighouse customer meets first is the Planning Portal's: "You do not need to apply for planning permission for repairs, maintenance or minor improvements, such as painting your house", while in a Conservation Area, a National Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or the Broads "you will need to apply for planning permission before cladding the outside of your house with stone, artificial stone, pebble dash, render, timber, plastic or tiles". The Portal adds that "If you live in a listed building, you will need listed building consent for any significant works whether internal or external".

We would explain how you check the conservation boundary, any Article 4 direction, the listed building position and the proposed work with Calderdale Council before confirming whether permission is needed.

Who you are up against in Brighouse

We counted the Google Maps results for painters and decorators in Brighouse on 17 September 2026. The sample was 2 listings carrying a Brighouse postal town in a painting or decorating category: 1 had a website and 1 had none. Seven rows in the pull gave no address at all and the rest sat in Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford and Cleckheaton nearby, then Rossendale, Burnley, Blackburn, Bolton, Bury, Rochdale, Oldham, Stockport and Manchester, which is the crawler widening the search.

That is one dated sample of one search and it is not a measure of the trade. What we would do with it is give Brighouse, Clifton and Bailiff Bridge, Rastrick East and Rastrick West a page each, carrying the jobs you have finished in them.

Where a decorating firm in Brighouse gets to when they invest

One Brighouse firm appeared in the first ten Google local listings we checked for "painters and decorators in Brighouse", with a site worth opening. Its nav runs Home, Partners, Accreditations, Careers and Contact Us, and the page carries 24 images, protective coatings work among them.

  • LDC Decorating Contractors Ltd

It carries photographs of its own jobs. It has no page per area and no reviews on the page.

The nav carries Home, Partners, Accreditations, Careers and Contact Us, the opening text names guiding a customer through every step of a project, and the page carries 24 images including protective coatings work.

Each one opened and checked 17 September 2026.

The Brighouse searches worth their own page

  • "painters and decorators Brighouse"

10 searches a month (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

The town page. It names the areas you work in and shows a finished room in each.

  • "decorators Brighouse"

10 searches a month (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

The short phrase, on the same page, routing into interiors, exteriors and the landlord page.

  • "painter and decorator Brighouse"

no recorded monthly volume (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

The keyword tool returned no row for the singular wording. The page carries it anyway, with your name and your face on it.

  • "commercial decorators Brighouse"

no recorded monthly volume (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

Nothing recorded for the phrase. A commercial page still gets built, with out of hours working and public liability cover on it.

  • "exterior painting Brighouse"

no recorded monthly volume (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

No row here. The exteriors page sits under the town page and carries the wording.

Of the five phrases shown, two carry a volume. Painter and decorator Brighouse, commercial decorators Brighouse and exterior painting Brighouse each returned no row from the keyword tool (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026).

What we would build for a Brighouse decorating firm

  • A home page naming Brighouse, Clifton, Bailiff Bridge, Rastrick East and Rastrick West.
  • A stone housing page for the Brighouse area, with the preparation shown as well as the finish.
  • A semis page for Rastrick East and Rastrick West, room by room.
  • An exteriors page for the elevations and woodwork across Clifton and Bailiff Bridge.
  • A landlord and letting agent page carrying the route an agent uses to book you.
  • A page quoting Calderdale on conservation areas, listed buildings and its eight named Article 4 directions.
  • Area pages for Brighouse, Clifton, Bailiff Bridge, Rastrick, Hove Edge and Lightcliffe.
  • A quote tool that asks interior or exterior, how many rooms, and whether the house is occupied or empty.

What every painting and decorating site needs, whatever the town, is on our painters and decorators page.

Painters and decorators in Brighouse ask us

  • What does the council actually control on the outside of a house here?

Calderdale says that in a conservation area permission is needed for some development you would not need elsewhere, naming larger extensions, dormer windows, cladding external walls, satellite dishes facing a highway and illuminated advertisements. The Planning Portal says painting a house is repairs, maintenance or a minor improvement. Set both out on the page and a customer stops guessing.

  • A customer's house is listed. Can I just get on with it?

Calderdale states that if a building is listed the whole of it is protected both internally and externally, that the protection covers anything fixed to it or within its curtilage, and that a feature not mentioned in the list description may still need consent. The page should say you check with the council before you start.

  • Only a couple of firms show a Brighouse address. What does that tell me?

It tells you what one pull returned. On 17 September 2026 the Maps pull returned 40 listings, two with a Brighouse postal town in a decorating category. The local finder returned ten results, six with a website URL, most giving Halifax, Bradford or Huddersfield addresses. Sample counts on one day, not a measure of the trade.
