Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council states there are currently 28 conservation areas in Rotherham, and Census 2021 records 34.2 per cent of Rotherham Central households renting from a private landlord or letting agency.

Our own totals over the nine named Rotherham town areas record 33,650 properties, 5,830 built before 1919, which is 17.3 per cent, and 13,840 before 1940, which is 41.1 per cent (VOA CTSOP4.1, stock at 31 March 2025). The published Rotherham local authority row beside them records 122,330 properties at 12.7 per cent before 1919 and 29.3 per cent before 1940. Inside the town the pre 1919 share runs from nil in Kimberworth Park, where 87.3 per cent went up between 1945 and 1972, to 50.6 per cent in Masbrough and Bradgate.
Census 2021 records the borough at 12.9 per cent of households renting from a private landlord or letting agency and 20.7 per cent renting socially. Inside the town the private landlord share reaches 34.2 per cent in Rotherham Central and 27.1 per cent in Masbrough and Bradgate, the social rented share 49.7 per cent in East Herringthorpe, and flats are 35.6 per cent of households in Rotherham Central against 9.3 per cent across the borough.

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council states that "A conservation area is an area of special interest, the character of which should be preserved or improved for local benefit", that "This has implications for development proposals within or adjacent to conservation areas" and that "There are currently 28 conservation areas in Rotherham". It asks people to "contact us for further information about any of these" and says the areas "are shown on the Policies Maps accompanying the Local Plan Sites and Policies document". The council does not publish the names of the 28 on that page, and which of them cover the streets of the town is not established from it.
No Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council page setting out an Article 4 direction was found on the council's own site on 17 September 2026. That is recorded as not found rather than as an absence of any direction, and an address is checked with the council.
The national wording is the Planning Portal's: "You do not need to apply for planning permission for repairs, maintenance or minor improvements, such as painting your house", set beside the rule that in a Conservation Area, a National Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or the Broads "you will need to apply for planning permission before cladding the outside of your house with stone, artificial stone, pebble dash, render, timber, plastic or tiles". The Portal states as well that "If you live in a listed building, you will need listed building consent for any significant works whether internal or external".

We counted the Google Maps results for painters and decorators in Rotherham on 17 September 2026. The sample was 21 listings carrying a Rotherham postal town in a painting or decorating category: 11 had a website of their own and 10 had none, two of those linking only to a Facebook page and eight carrying no link at all. The eleven sites include builds on Wix, GoDaddy, Google Sites and an invoicing tool's page builder, and no merchants and no national chain branches carried a Rotherham address in the pull.
That is one dated sample of one search. What we would do with it is give Rotherham Central, Masbrough, Eastwood, Herringthorpe, Kimberworth Park and Rotherham South a page each, carrying the jobs you have finished in them.
Three Rotherham firms appeared in the first ten Google local listings we checked for "painters and decorators in Rotherham", with sites worth opening. One of the three carries an areas we cover block and a painting and decorating articles section beside its domestic and commercial pages.
It carries photographs of its own jobs and reviews on the page. Quotes come through a form, and the phone number sits in the header.
The nav separates Domestic Painting and Decorating from Commercial Painting and Decorating and carries Customer Reviews and a Painting and Decorating Tips articles section, with an Areas We Cover block and 18 images on the page.

The nav separates a Non-commercial Portfolio from a Commercial Portfolio, and the opening line reads 'Based in South Yorkshire, SDW Decor has over 26 years of experience'.

The strapline reads 'Home & Commercial Projects in Sheffield and Rotherham', the nav carries a Gallery, and the page repeats the mobile number six times as a telephone link.
Two keep the phone number in the header, one carries reviews on the page, and none of the two we could check run a page per area. Each one opened and checked 17 September 2026.
