Websites for decorators in Pontefract that answer the listed building question.

Wakefield Council states that the district has over 700 listed buildings and that "Even relatively minor works, such as painting, may affect the character of a listed building so you should always contact the Conservation Team prior to starting any works".

We build a flats page for the North West, a larger houses page for the South West, a newer estates page for the North East and a listed buildings page quoting the council. Our own totals of the Valuation Office table record 3,300 Pontefract properties, 21.2 per cent, built from 2000 onwards. See it live before you pay a penny, live in 7 days.

Our own totals over the four named Pontefract areas record 15,540 properties, 1,250 built before 1919, which is 8.0 per cent, and 3,790 before 1940, which is 24.4 per cent (VOA CTSOP4.1, stock at 31 March 2025). Inside the town, Pontefract South East records 39.6 per cent renting socially and Pontefract North West 30.9 per cent, while Pontefract South West is 77.9 per cent owner occupied with 37.9 per cent of households in detached houses, and flats are 24.2 per cent of households in Pontefract North West against 1.6 per cent in the North East.

We would build a flats and managed property page, a larger houses page and a newer estates page, each with your own finished rooms on it.

The rules that change a painting and decorating job in Pontefract

Wakefield Council states that "Wakefield district has over 700 Listed Buildings", that listed building consent is needed to "alter or extend it in a way that affects its character as a building of special architectural or historic interest", and, in its own words, that "Even relatively minor works, such as painting, may affect the character of a listed building so you should always contact the Conservation Team prior to starting any works". That sentence is the one a Pontefract customer most often has not read.

On conservation areas the council states "There are currently 31 of these in our district" and that designation "brings with it a number of controls including: control over the demolition of buildings, strengthened controls over minor development, special provision for the protection of trees". Its list of the 31 names three with Pontefract in the title, Pontefract Castle, Pontefract Market Place and The Mount, Pontefract, alongside Friarwood and Button Park.

The national wording underneath the council's is the Planning Portal's: "You do not need to apply for planning permission for repairs, maintenance or minor improvements, such as painting your house", while in a Conservation Area, a National Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or the Broads "you will need to apply for planning permission before cladding the outside of your house with stone, artificial stone, pebble dash, render, timber, plastic or tiles". The Portal adds that "If you live in a listed building, you will need listed building consent for any significant works whether internal or external".

We would explain how you check the conservation boundary, any Article 4 direction, the listed building position and the proposed work with Wakefield Council's Conservation Team before confirming whether permission is needed.

Who you are up against in Pontefract

We counted the Google Maps results for painters and decorators in Pontefract on 17 September 2026. The sample was 7 listings carrying a Pontefract postal town in a painting or decorating category: 1 had a website of its own and 6 had none, two of those linking only to a Facebook page and four carrying no link at all. Two further Pontefract rows were merchants, a home improvement store and a national chain branch, and seven more carried other trade categories, four of them plastering.

That is one dated sample of one search. What we would do with it is give Pontefract North West, South West, South East and North East a page each, carrying the jobs you have finished in them.

Where a decorating firm in Pontefract gets to when they invest

One Pontefract firm whose website we opened and checked. Its header reads decorating contractors for commercial sites and private homes, and the footer prints a Pontefract street address.

  • MSR Decorating

A custom site built by an agency. It carries photographs of its own jobs. It has no page per area and no reviews on the page. Quotes come by phone, and the phone number sits in the header.

The nav carries Home, Services, Projects and About us with a Get a quote button, the header reads 'Decorating contractors for commercial sites and private homes' and the footer gives 2 Harropwell Ln, Pontefract WF8 1QY.

Each one opened and checked 17 September 2026.

The Pontefract searches worth their own page

  • "painters and decorators Pontefract"

40 searches a month (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

The town page. It names the areas you work in and shows a finished room in each.

  • "painter and decorator Pontefract"

40 searches a month (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

The singular wording belongs on the same town page, carrying your name, your face and your finished work.

  • "decorators Pontefract"

no recorded monthly volume (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

The keyword tool returned no row for the short phrase. The town page still carries it and routes into the job pages.

  • "commercial decorators Pontefract"

no recorded monthly volume (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

Nothing recorded here. A commercial page still gets built, with out of hours working, public liability cover and crew size on it.

  • "exterior painting Pontefract"

no recorded monthly volume (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026)

No row for the phrase. The exteriors page sits under the town page and carries the wording anyway.

Of the five phrases shown, two carry a volume. Decorators Pontefract, commercial decorators Pontefract and exterior painting Pontefract each returned no row from the keyword tool (OpenSEO keyword data, September 2026).

What we would build for a Pontefract decorating firm

  • A home page naming Pontefract North West, South West, South East and North East.
  • A flats and managed property page for Pontefract North West, with the agent booking route on it.
  • A larger houses page for Pontefract South West, room by room.
  • A newer estates page for Pontefract North East, with the paint systems named.
  • A social landlord and contract page for Pontefract South East.
  • A listed buildings and conservation page quoting the council on minor works and naming Pontefract Castle, Market Place and The Mount.
  • Area pages for Pontefract North West, South West, South East, North East, Friarwood and Carleton.
  • A quote tool that asks interior or exterior, how many rooms, and whether the house is occupied or empty.

What every painting and decorating site needs, whatever the town, is on our painters and decorators page.

Painters and decorators in Pontefract ask us

  • A customer's house is listed. What does the council actually say?

Wakefield Council says the district has over 700 listed buildings. In its own words, even relatively minor works such as painting may affect the character of a listed building, and you should always contact the Conservation Team before starting any works. Putting that sentence and the team's contact route on the page answers the question before the call.

  • Is there room for a commercial decorating page here?

OpenSEO returned no row for commercial decorators Pontefract, and 40 monthly searches each for painters and decorators Pontefract and painter and decorator Pontefract. No volume is recorded for the commercial phrase. A commercial page can still set out out of hours working, public liability cover and crew size. The keyword tool measured phrases, not enquiries.

  • What did the local listings look like on the day?

The Maps pull on 17 September 2026 returned 40 listings. Seven carried a Pontefract postal town in a decorating category: one with its own site, two with only a Facebook page and four with no link. Two more Pontefract rows were shops, one of them a national chain branch. Sample counts on one day.
