Websites for drainage firms in Cardiff that work to the Welsh rules.

Dwr Cymru Welsh Water is the sewerage undertaker for Cardiff, and Cardiff Council is the SuDS Approving Body under Schedule 3 of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010, which commenced in Wales on 7 January 2019.

We build a page per service, an area page for Roath, Grangetown, Cathays and Ely, and a Welsh rules page. The Valuation Office records 166,780 properties in Cardiff, 23.8 per cent of them built before 1919. See it live before you pay a penny, live in 7 days.

Roath

The rules that change a drainage job in Cardiff

Schedule 3 of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 commenced in Wales on 7 January 2019. Surface water drainage on new development must be built to the statutory national standards published by Welsh Ministers and approved by the local authority acting as SuDS Approving Body, with construction work covering less than 100 square metres excepted from the requirement for approval (Welsh Government, sustainable drainage systems guidance). Cardiff Council is the approving body and states it has seven weeks in which to determine an application, or twelve where an Environmental Impact Assessment applies.

The transfer on 1 October 2011 covered qualifying private sewers and lateral drains connected to the public sewer system by 1 July 2011, in Wales as in England (gov.uk, the private sewers transfer regulations). Responsibility for an individual pipe should be checked with Dwr Cymru Welsh Water.

Welsh Water states that extending a home over or within three metres of a public sewer or lateral drain must be notified, and gives two routes: self certification, which it states is confirmed by an approval notice by email within three days of submission, after which work can start, or a full application where the criteria are not met. It adds that an application is unlikely to be accepted where the sewer's internal diameter is larger than 225mm or the pipe is deeper than three metres.

We would explain how you check the SuDS approval, the build over route and the proposed work before confirming whether permission is needed.

Who you are up against in Cardiff

We counted the Google Maps results for drainage companies in Cardiff on 16 September 2026. The sample was 40 listings: 35 had a website and 5 had none. Five are a drainage service with a Cardiff address and one is a national franchise branch. Four are merchants or suppliers, and the rest are groundworkers, landscapers, gutter cleaning firms, paving contractors, engineers, a damp specialist and a trade body's corporate office.

That is one dated sample of one search. What we would do with it is give Roath, Grangetown, Cathays, the bay, Ely and Llanrumney a page each, carrying work you have finished in them.

Where a drainage firm in Cardiff gets to when they invest

Three Cardiff firms appeared in the first ten Google local listings we checked for "drainage companies in Cardiff", with sites worth opening. One gives testimonials and a gallery their own places in the navigation, and another splits domestic and commercial work in the menu.

  • City Drains

Built on Wix. It carries photographs of its own jobs and reviews on the page. It has no page per area. Quotes come through a form, and the phone number sits in the header.

It gives testimonials and a gallery their own places in the navigation.

  • Drainmen Ltd

It carries a page per area. Quotes come by phone, and the phone number sits in the header.

The number and a Call Now button sit at the top of the page, and the menu is five named jobs rather than a services drop down.

  • Daily Drains

Built on WordPress. It carries a page per area, photographs of its own jobs and reviews on the page. Quotes come through a form, and the phone number sits in the header.

It separates domestic and commercial services in the navigation, and puts pricing on its About page.

All three keep the phone number in the header, both of the two we could check carry reviews on the page, and two run a page per area. Each one opened and checked 16 September 2026.

What every drainage site needs, whatever the town, is on our drainage companies page.

Drainage companies in Cardiff ask us

  • Does a Cardiff drainage site need to say anything an English one does not?

Schedule 3 of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 commenced in Wales on 7 January 2019. Surface water drainage on new development must meet the Welsh national standards and be approved by the council acting as SuDS Approving Body, with construction work covering less than 100 square metres excepted from the requirement for approval. The page would quote that and link to it.

  • What is the build over route here?

Dwr Cymru Welsh Water runs two. Self certification, which it states is available where the published criteria are met and is confirmed by an approval notice by email within three days, or a full application where they are not. Welsh Water adds that an application is unlikely to be accepted where the sewer is larger than 225mm internally or deeper than three metres.

  • Should the site speak to landlords or to homeowners?

Census 2021 records 22.2 per cent of Cardiff households renting from a private landlord or letting agency. The Valuation Office records 92.5 per cent of Roath properties and 82.1 per cent of Cathays North properties as built before 1919. We would write for homeowners, landlords and agents on separate pages.
